
FOI Inbox Lead
Location: Remote (with occasional travel to London or Birmingham office, if required)
Contract Duration: Approx. 6-8 weeks (with possible extension of up to 12 weeks total, subject to approval)
Start Date: 10 September 2025
Security Clearance: Basic DBS required (must be current within last 12 months)
Working Hours: Full-time, 5 days/week, 7.4 hours per day
Day Rate: £144 per day (umbrella)
Overview:
We are recruiting on behalf of a government regulatory body for an experienced FOI Inbox Lead to join their Information Governance (IG) team on an interim basis. This role will provide cover during a period of planned absence and is key to maintaining the department's FOI and data compliance operations.
As the FOI Inbox Lead, you'll be responsible for overseeing incoming Freedom of Information (FOI), Environmental Information Regulation (EIR), and Subject Access Requests (SAR), ensuring they are correctly logged, assessed, allocated, and responded to within statutory deadlines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the central FOI Inbox Lead, managing the FOI inbox and associated tracking spreadsheet.
- Triage all incoming communications, distinguishing between general enquiries, FOI/EIR requests, and SARs.
- Respond to routine requests using pre-approved templates or under guidance from the Head of Information Governance.
- Allocate complex or specialist requests to the appropriate departments or team leads, ensuring clarity and deadline adherence.
- Draft and review responses in line with FOIA, EIR, and GDPR requirements, applying appropriate exemptions and redactions.
- Engage with internal stakeholders and third parties to confirm the accuracy and sensitivity of requested data.
- Support the quarterly and annual compilation of FOI/EIR statistics for central government reporting.
- Provide administrative assistance across the IG team, including internal review coordination and digital filing.
Skills & Experience Required:
Essential:
- Prior experience working as an FOI Inbox Lead, or in a similar role within the public or regulatory sector.
- Strong understanding of FOIA 2000, EIR 2004, and GDPR including SAR procedures.
- Confident managing sensitive information and liaising with multiple internal and external stakeholders.
- Proficient in Microsoft 365, including SharePoint, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail.
- Self-motivated, organised, and capable of managing competing priorities under tight deadlines.
Additional Information:
- This role can be delivered largely remotely, with equipment (Surface Pro) provided.
- A Basic DBS Check (valid within the last 12 months) is required prior to CV submission.
