The Role:
The successful Welfare Officer will work collaboratively with all colleagues across each programme delivered in Birmingham, to identify where additional welfare support is required for "at risk" learners. This is to ensure they have improved wellbeing, attendance and performance and are retained on their programme. This role will work with delivery colleagues to increase their skills and knowledge in this area. As well as working directly with learners and their families, as required. This may be on a 1:1 basis or as part of group session
Key Responsibilities:
· Identify "at risk" learners and assess their welfare needs.
· Provide one‑to‑one and group support to learners (and families as needed).
· Monitor learner wellbeing, attendance, performance, and retention.
· Liaise with delivery colleagues and train them in welfare‑related skills and knowledge.
· Develop and maintain support plans and interventions for vulnerable learners.
· Refer learners/families to external agencies or services when necessary.
· Maintain accurate records of welfare concerns and actions taken.
· Promote a culture of inclusion, safety, and wellbeing within the programmes.
· Review and update welfare policies or procedures to reflect best practice.
· Report on welfare metrics (e.g. attendance, wellbeing outcomes) to senior staff.
Education, Skills and Requirements:
· Hold a minimum of Level 2 qualification in Maths and English
· DBS - Must have an Enhanced Adult DBS
· Knowledge of support employment programmes
· Experience of working with learners with a learning disability, difficulty or autism
· Experience of managing complex safeguarding and/or welfare cases
· Knowledge of safeguarding and prevent legislation
· Excellent communication skills
· Able to manage different situations in a sensitive and timely manner
