Our Client
Morgan Hunt are currently working with a large Housing Association based in Manchester who are looking to recruit an Assistant Supported Housing Worker for their supported housing service in Old Trafford. The service supports homeless young people aged 16 - 25 to live independently and move on with their lives. Shifts include an early, late and 1 in 4 weekends and therefore candidates must have a flexible approach to work.
Residents are supported by a team who work closely to deliver support in areas such as health and wellbeing, budgeting, education, employment training and re housing. Each resident is offered personalised support packages and through their weekly one to one sessions, workshops and activities, they are supported to live well and move onto independent accommodation.
The Role
As an Assistant Supported Housing Worker, you will be responsible for;
- Providing practical assistance and advice to residents in areas such as welfare benefits, money management and independent living skills.
- Establish positive links with young people and promote active participation in meaningful activities.
- Help residents identify their goals in terms of employment, training, education, and future housing.
- Organise and promote scheme social activities and encourage residents to participate.
- Maintain active links with relevant external statutory and voluntary agencies such as Social Services and Aftercare services to ensure that all residents support needs are met.
- Work with residents to help them prepare for living independently and resettlement in the community.
- Welcome, induct and help orientate new service users, ensuring they are aware of and comply with all the conditions of the licence agreement, Health and Safety regulations, rights, and responsibilities.
- Provide administrative support to the project team.
- Maintain the safety and security of the building.
- Project Assistants will be expected to take a pride in the scheme, and as such may be expected to take part in some light cleaning duties.
The Candidate
- Experience of knowledge of different methods and techniques including strengths-based approach.
- Experience of working within a similar setting supporting young people with complex needs
- Knowledge and understanding of the needs of young people and the issues that can prevent long term tenancy sustainment.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, policy and developments relating to young people.
- The ability to motivate positive change and engage clients to develop independent living skills and achieve their outcomes.
- Excellent communication skills.
